The phrase "And when he came to himself speaks of indentity." Recognition of selfworth, social role,personality-worth and position.
The prodigal son went through indentity crisis. By this I mean personal pschological conflict,he was in dismay about his social role. He went through loss of sense of continuity towards his bearing, nature and direction from the father. The prodigal son is a type of the believer in dis-arrey. while his father is a type of God. The prodigal son lost his identity and was reduced to the enemy's plan for mankind, thanks be to God he later came to himself. Like God will ask Adam "where are you" Child of God, I would put that question to you right away where are you today? Still in your really position in Christ or have shifted base. Note this points * 1.The believer needs to know exactely who he is in Christ*2. Lost of character makes you a prodigal (he went out of himself and lost focus).*3. when you mistake who you are in Christ you feed pigs with gentiles. which oparateing below standard. *4. You will fuction properly when you know who you are, when you pick wrong identity you degenerate to awful situation away from home. *5. When you got born again your old low esteemed identity changed Isaiah 44:19-21. *6 In your old Identity you represented the devil in all things, now in your new identity you are reppresenting Christ in all your ways.Col 3:10 2Cor 5:17. *7. Do not stay with your old identity it is incompatible with the new man. Matt 19:17 *8. In your new identity you recieved a new name which refers to the imput of Christ character in you Rev 2:7, Isaiah 62:2-5 *9. Regain the power you need to achieve positive result inh your life, that is picking up the right identity. *10 The prodigal son accepted back his authority of sonship when he came to himself and returned to his father with fear and shame. His father's reception proves that genuine repentance brings not only pardon but complete restoration of all he lost when he mistook his identity.
